My lovely Aunt Vicki gave me a book a few months ago all about aprons. And I got inspired to make one. I love the idea of hostess aprons. Don't you? They're just so charming. Wouldn't you love to invite people over for dinner and come out of your kitchen wearing one while carrying a roast?
My plan was to sell it on etsy but the seam is a little wonky in the back (story of my life - wonky seams). I blame the bias tape. Actually, I blame the gal who wrote the book and suggested that if you don't want to be considered an apron-making-hack you'll make your own bias tape. So I spent 18 years of my life making 4 yards of bias tape (even though in the end it barely needed 2) and then another 18 years creasing and pressing it. And then 18 more years sewing it on then taking it out then sewing it on then taking it out. And then about 5 seconds to decide that bias tape is the Mayor of Jokeland and who cares if the seams are showing a bit. I sure don't.
And maybe you don't either, and if you don't, you can have it because I've decided to give the apron away.
The first person to calls dibs can have it, free of charge, I'll even pay for shipping. But there is one condition: You have to send me a picture of you wearing it while holding a platter of food. It doesn't have to be a roast but it needs to be something you would serve to a guest. I know...I'm so demanding. But you can humor me, right?

I love aprons so I get dibs! :)
Dang! It would have been mine if I checked my reader last night! I've been in the eternal process of making a fun full-length apron with stellar retro fabric, but it's taking SO long.
i have at least three old-fashioned hostess aprons. they are fab. i used to like to give them as bridal shower gifts, with a note saying "All housework is slightly less awful with a fabulous apron on." But I am in the phase of life where I am invited to precious few bridal showers and the vintage shop went out of business, so pbbbbttthhhh.
Tap Tap the first BBQ man-apron that you decide to make. Or tap tap the first husband/wife apron set you make (you know the kind where one apron says "I love to cook" and the other says "I love the cook").
Darnit. I can't wait to see the picture of the cute girl and the food. Sweet idea.
Curses on my getting sidetracked by the Fablehaven books and not being on the computer at the right time! I would have made a roast and everything, and I know Tim would have gotten a good laugh out of the apron. Plus I probably could have talked him into posing in it.
I could care less about the apron, but by all means, let me know when you plan on having people over for that roast--I call dibs on making your guest list!!! :)
DanG It! I...I like Andrea, so I'm doing my best not to be jealous. (Am SAINT.)
RATS!!!!! I would have totally worn that apron WITH A SET OF PEARLS AND HEELS...all while serving missionaries...I mean it...DANG MY END OF THE QUARTER SCHEDULE.....arrgghhhh
Double Darn I would have been the cutest lunch lady in that apron ! Maybe I should come over and you can help me make one, since I am I need of a new one ?
Next time I see you, please fill me in on what a bias tape is and what's it used for.
I'm assuming something different from duct tape.
I think you need one of these. Trust me, they're worth it.

What book did you use? Whichever one it was, I don't agree that you're a hack if you don't make your own bias tape. If you're using a solid color, spend the $3.50 on packaged tape and save yourself some sanity.
