The Mother Of All Sing Alongs

As far as sing-alongs go, the Sound of Music Sing-Along at the Hollywood Bowl is the Mother of Them All. There you are, sitting under the stars in the cool night air, singing your guts out with 17,000 other nerds, most of them are wearing some sort of Swiss/nun/girl-in-white-dresses-with-blue-satin-sashes get up. Everyone goes bananas when the camera spots Julie Andrews coming over the hill. There are a lot of wolf whistles when the Captain shows up. We boo the Nazis. Rolf is shown all the disdain he deserves. (What a dummy. I don't know what Liesl was even thinking.) And the Baroness gets hissed.

A few words on that. I'd like to say a word on her behalf ("the say it Sister Margaretta"), her eyebrows demand some kind of respect.

Also, you can't fault a girl for falling in love with the Captain. Who among us hasn't, I ask you. And she found him first. And he, by all accounts, was courting her. She's rich, she doesn't need a man to take care of her. She must be in it for love. And the amazing schniztel the cook prepares. I think she gets a bad rap. I mean, obviously Maria is the greatest and they belong together. But I think we need to cut the Baroness some slack.

It was a particularly fun group of friends this time around. Angela brought her girls and it's always refreshing to spend time with teenagers who like being with the old ladies. Plus, teenagers are particularly good at group shots.

At one point before the movie started and I was remeniscing about the time we came to this event and a woman dressed as a nun barfed right after intermission and had to be carried out in a wheel chair because she was so drunk. The guy sitting in front of me overheard me tell this story and he turned around and said, "The last time I was that drunk was at my junior high graduation." Say what?! "And my dad was the one who gave me the whiskey." Double say what?!

I'm a little heartbroken that I only know two of the people in this picture and devastated that I'm not one of them. :(

Our theater is putting on the show in June. To audition… Or not to audition That is the question. Maria? Baroness? (let's admit it it would be fun to ask snooty) Nun? (No costume change does sound refreshing). I LOVE this movie!

I second Amanda's comment. Dang it…why does Utah have to be so far from the Hollywood Bowl? I was there the night she barfed. I'm pretty sure that was the same night that the whole lot of us, including drunks, and the puppet guy, sang all the way down the hill after the show. It was the best after-party ever. But maybe, my most favorite memory was when we had the brilliant idea to bring rice to celebrate the wedding. The wave of rice was awesome! And the best part was that most of them were too much into the movie to even care. Huzzah!
