Free Theater Tickets!

Katie came out of her room last night and said, "I have something your readers would love." And she's totally right. You're going to love this.

(But first can I tell you how weird I still feel saying that I have readers. Because I sometimes think it's just my mom who reads this...because she has to...because she's my mom.)

Anyway, the thing that you're going to love is Free Night of Theater 2009. Theaters around the nation are just giving away free tickets to you for plays and musicals. HOW FUN IS THAT!? If you go to that website you can check out what is playing in your area and what nights are available and they give you a date of when you can reserve the tickets. You get two tickets per reservation.

I think I'm going to get tickets for Richard III. It's been ages since I've seen Shakespeare. And this is a good one - lots of ghosts and a hunchback! Who wants to be my date?

I got free tickets to a play when they did this last year. It was great. You have to log on right when they release the tickets though for the most popular shows and times. Tyler actually called me from work on Monday and told me to mark my calendar for Oct. 5, which is when they start releasing the tickets in Dallas. The great part is though, that even if all the shows you've ever heard of are taken, you can get tickets to something obscure, because it's free, and possibly end up really liking it. That's what happened to us.

OOH! ME! I want to go. I heart theater and its been an eon since I've seen anything by the Bard too. It sounds like a dream come true!

Shakespeare is sounding good for the fall weather. All that grayness and drama in England. I recently watched Henry V. Yikes! That just never gets old.

Plus, I'm reading Phillipa Gregory's "The Constant Princess"...I've got a thing for the royal family...historical novels notwithstanding....

But free theatre tickets are very generous...

And of course you have readers...die hard fans, if you will!

Sad. Nothing in Arizona. I'd have to travel to California or Utah to get a "free" ticket.

If I didn't have a kid in school, I would totally make a weekend of it and be your date - but alas . . .

There's the Complete Works of Shakespeare in Cedar City for next week at the Shakespeare festival, which would be fabulous, but I don't think I can slip away from my kids for a quick trip without someone noticing. But what an awesome idea! We're going to see Into the Woods tomorrow night, so, even though it wasn't free, we're still supporting the arts by our attendance and appreciation. Plus we're supporting my aunt, uncle, and cousin, since they're heavily involved. Thanks for the heads up. I'm going to try next year and see if Ogden has classed up by then.

Damn me for living in Nebraska - and everything within driving for us is all gone. But I forwarded it to my sister out in Cleveland - so yay for her!!

Thanks for sharing! Who couldn't do with some free theatre? If I didn't already have a date, I'd totally be yours:)
