Legos or Barbies

1.) I spent the morning watching my friend's boys and I have come to the conclusion that boys have better toys then girls. What are Barbies to Legos? Cynde and I use to destroy her Barbies. We would turn them into punk rockers and chop off all of their hair.

2.) You know those family stickers that people put on the back of their cars? With the mom and the dad and the kids? Well, this morning I saw one that had a woman, three bunnies, a parrot and a gold fish. At first I wanted to cry. But then I realized that just the fact of her putting those stickers on and announcing to the world that she loved her pets meant that she was pretty thrilled with her life. So good for her. But, for the record, if you see me driving around with those type of stickers on my car it's a cry for help and I need an intervention.

3.) I have set some goals, one of them being that I have to learn how to do two new things every month. It can be learning a new habit, like flossing every day, or learning a new skill, like how to tat. This week I am learning how to whistle really loud. The kind of whistling where you have to stick your fingers in your mouth and the whistle is so loud that people have to cover their ears. I can finally get sound out but now I'm working on volume. My goal is to be proficient by my first Dodger game of the year.

I think I still have my little tatting spool from when we tried the first time. If you get the hang of it, we'll need to plan a visit so you can teach me. :)

It's true. Shopping for my boys is like living the childhood I wish I had. Of course, I made flip phones out of my brother's legos and pretended to take clothing orders from the JC Penney catalog.

I think I should put those stickers on my minivan, and also one of my TV and one of my computer. That would be appropriate.

Good luck with your new things to try. I should do that. May I recommend duct tape purse making? I tried that once, and it was a lot of fun, and wasn't very expensive. And I think you'd be more successful at it than I was.

Andrew would totally agree with you on the Lego vs. Barbie thing. He still has all his Lego sets from when he was a kid and his goal is for us to have a Lego room in our house (heaven help me). Every time we go to Target we have to walk down the Lego and Nerf gun isle.

I saw a similar sticker on a lady's car. It was her, the dog, fish, and cat. I'd be afraid of advertising something like that and having some scary guy follow me home because I looked like easy prey.

Let me know when you get that whistling thing down. I want to learn. My goal is to learn to juggle. I think it would be so cool to hula hoop and juggle at the same time. I've already got the hula hoop thing down...I'm not going to lie...I rock at it (no pun intended, well maybe just a little one).

That goldfish sticker seems like kind of a risky move. Those things are known for their long lifespan or strong constitution, are they?

I read this post with great interest. I have to start all of my class postings with that sentence. I like it. It's very polite, but this time I meant it.

Legos are cool. It's the toy of choice in these parts during General Conference, but the parents always end up playing with them with the kids, so......

Regarding tatting: I just this very evening located a placemat (I'm questioning if that's what it really is, perhaps it's just a pretty top to a dresser) that my great-grandmother made. She tatted the edges and embroidered the flowers on it. Odd that you mentioned tatting on this very evening that I found that...odd odd odd.

And odd also that you mentioned whistling...my daughter practiced her newly acquired skill of whistling today while I was at her home. She was sitting there reading a catalog and began whistling "Camptown Ladies", which is a tune that I've actually changed the words to so I can sing to the kids. It was awful. The only reason she was whistling while I was there is because her husband doesn't DEEPLY appreciate her whistling...so...good luck to you..

Your aspirations for learning something new are admirable.

Are we related or something?

I can whistle. Really loud. It's good that you've got some sound coming out, I think the key to getting it really loud is wet lips, and really firm tongue placement. Good luck, it's a fun skill to have.
(I similarly set myself to learning how as a teenager. One of the most fun skills I've acquired)

My mom tatted a couple of pillows. We never used them, though, because of you ever fall asleep on them you'll wake up with some crazy marks on your face.

I tried to learn to tat - it was a huge fail but I learned to love the word "piquot." Not a total waste of brain cells.

I am very disappointed that my daughter doesn't like legos. It seems that if I want to build the starship Enterprise, I am going to have to buy it for myself. That's just sad.

If you want loud whistle lessons, give Tim a call. He has it down to an art. SOOOOOOOOOO LOUD! And Katzbox, true story. Duct tape purses, no lie. And wallets.

You want to learn tatting, I come across a "learn to tat" video, all on the same day. Here's the link. You're on your own with this one, btw.

I feel the same way about the family stickers on the back of vehicles. If we were to try that, you wouldn't be able to see out of the rear window. I think they are just a step above the Calvin stickers of him peeing on stuff.
