I stir counter clockwise.

Okay, this is a VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION I'm about to ask you:

When you stir the Nestle Quik* in your milk on Christmas morning do you stir clockwise or counter clockwise?

Actually the Nestle Quik part isn't really important - you could be stirring anything really - but it is what started off the Great Knecht Christmas Morning Debate of Aught Nine. We always have chocolate milk at breakfast on Christmas morning and one of us was making up a glass and my dad said, "You're stirring backwards." Which, of course, set all of us to stirring to see which way we went. I stir counter clockwise, which was the majority by one that day. And since then we've asked nearly every single person who has come into the home which way they stir. It has become kind of heated between the two sides.

So I need you to either stir something or pretend you're stirring something. Right now. Go! Even if you're sitting in your office and people are looking. This is for science! Or, for my amusement, which is just as important. Let me know the results.

*I realize that the name is now Nesquik, but I think we can all agree that it's a lame name and join in solidarity to never call it that. Who's with me?

I do believe the rotation of a clock was set up for a reason. It's the right way. To go counter clockwise is to go against what is right. Ergo, you are going against what is right.
CLOCKWISE!!!!!

clockwise for quick stirring, and counter for slow stirring. What?

Counter-clockwise, but I'm left-handed. Do you suppose that makes any difference?

I'm like Gina. Clockwise for liquids, counter for batters.

We all stir counter clockwise except for Abby. (Kyle can't stir yet but I will be sure to test his ability daily)

Clockwise, or in dance lingo, "Against Line of Dance".

I do both, but in this order: clockwise, counter-clockwise, clockwise. And just that many times.

Counter-clockwise begins by moving the spoon closer to the core before completing the rotation (clockwise for lefties). For the counter-clockwisers, chocolate milk is more than a drink--it is an experience involving the entire body, hence the desire to bring the spoon closer before sweeping it away. (I am a counter-clockwiser and have an unhealthy addiction to Quik.)

I'm going to have to go with majority here and say clockwise. Although my mom is here with me and says she stirs in a figure 8. Where does that play in?

I don't drink chocolate milk. I do drink cocoa - does that count? I stir clockwise, but I would be willing to change my vote if the price was right.

Clockwise for a quick stir and I switch between the two when I'm stirring something else (two clockwise, two counter-clockwise, etc.). I don't usually drink Quik. I use it on my icecream.

I stir everything counter clockwise, except our family Christmas Pudding, which, after being thoroughly mixed, must be stirred clockwise three times (with eyes closed) for your wish to come true.

mostly clockwise...but i'm also one to make sure things are evenly blended - so i go both ways...i start clockwise, go counter, back clockwise again...

I stir counter-clockwise.

Clockwise. I don't mean to be contrary to you, Rachel. If it were a matter of priciple I'd be on your side, just because I think it's fun to oppose your dad. But this time it's not a matter of principle, it's a matter of nature. And my nature says, "clockwise".

Clockwise first, then I switch! Really, I like to stop the rushing whirlpool and stir it the other way to make sure it gets mixed up really well!

This is a "pop culture" question. If has to do with your dominant hand. Sorry I can't cite my source on this. If you're left hand, then you TYPICALLY stir counter clockwise, if you're right, you stir clockwise. The way you make your zeros and the letter "o" will typically follow suit. I say "typically" because there are always exceptions. It may also be influenced by how dominant one's hemispheres may be.

I thought I'd have a unique answer here, but Andrea's mom already beat me to the figure 8, which is what I generally do.

But I do agree with Taylor Family--it's fun to get a whirlpool and then switch it up.
