The Middle of the Day

Dear People Who Work On Weekdays:

There's this thing called the Middle of the Day and it is pretty fantastic. I use to be one of you (gosh I hope I get to join you again. I miss going to the movies.) and didn't realize that there was life outside of the office at that time of day. Well, let me tell you, there is. And it is completely peopled with the elderly. Which means that I fit right in. Seriously, I had no idea there were so many old people. But there are! And they're all at Sprouts at 10am, blocking the aisles.

In the Middle of the Day you can do things like laundry and working out at the gym and writing your congressman and filling out dozens of on line applications that ask the same 30 questions, without any kind of pressure to get it done before you collapse into bed. Because the Middle of the Day is huge. There are a lot of hours in it. Hours with more sunshine and less traffic. The Middle of the Day is awesome. So are paychecks. Any ideas on how I could have both?

Hugs and Kisses,
Rachel =)

Maybe you could get a job as one of those secret shopper people that reports on employees at stores and if they greeted you, kept the store clean, etc. If Sprouts, Borders and Barnes and Noble could keep you going full time, I'd say you could have the best of both worlds...and still come home and make a Vanilla Ice stocking!

I love the middle of the day. I'm spoiled by it. If anything interferes with the usual free flow of the middle of the day I get quite discontent. Especially if I encounter a traffic jam. I always say to the kids "What is going on with this traffic! It's the middle of the day! Why are all these people out and about?" The middle of the day is the province of the elderly, the stay at home mom, and, as you have now discovered, the unemployed. Also occasionally by the employed who are sent out to do an office related errand and then somehow find themselves perusing the aisles of Ross Dress For Less as if they were One Of Us.

I am spoiled by the Middle of the Day too. Isn't it wonderful! I have to admit that I try to do so many things during that time--hence my kids don't get naps until it's over. You should become a secret shopper. Maybe you could get on as a Macy's or Nordstrom one.

Ask my mother... she holds the secret to naps for paychecks.
