Food-Freezer

1.) It all started last week when I had leftover ingredients for chicken enchiladas. I made them up and filled an 8x8 pan and froze it. The same thing happened last night when I had left over ingredients for stuffed shells. And today I was craving oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and since an entire batch is too much of a temptation for a Woman of Elegant Leisure who spends her days primarily at home I baked up a few and froze the rest of the dough in individual balls. I am officially a food-freezer. It's a good thing my freezer is wee and already stuffed because I can see this becoming a serious problem. If this is not a sign of 80-year-old-ness then I don't know what is.

2.) I'm amongst the gainfully employed. Sort of. It's part time. I work from home. And I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing. No seriously. When I try to explain it to people it takes me 10 minutes and we all end up more confused then when we started. It is very Kramerica Industries.

3.) You may not have caught Angela's comment about firesides because she just posted but she says that in New Zealand, where she is from, firesides are usually 2 hours long and they have no refreshments at the end. Clearly New Zealand is where the monastic order of the church is located. Do they also give up all worldly possessions and wear sack cloth? When no one makes a comment in Sunday School is that just because of their vows of silence?

Okay, I have begun accepting immigration (propaganda) emails from NZ because apparently they have a dearth of mental health professionals there and they're doing lots of nice things to get people to move there...no more!!! Huh uh! If those firesides are 2 hours with no refreshments, I'd rather bang a board against my forehead and sing in minor notes, thank you very much.

I've never mastered frozen food. I don't know if I wrap it wrong, use the wrong container, but it always has a wrong, freezer flavor. Something is wrong with me. I didn't get the freezer gene.

What are you doing from home? Can I buy it? Can you post pictures? Can I be any more annoying? Why aren't I in bed? I should stop drinking soft drinks after 8:00 pm.

NO REFRESHMENTS?

:)

I can't remember the last fireside that had refreshments.

Perhaps, being the land of the shire and a couple of Conchords is meant to be sufficient for our needs?

You won't see me moving countries, but you may hear of me moving and shaking the way things are done around these parts...yes'am!

Firesides in NZ - if you're lucky enough to nab a calling in the youth program, their firesides most often have refreshments.

Sunday School in NZ - Instead of a teacher you have a discussion director (not literally). It can be hard to get through two paragraphs of the lesson. Just when you thought you knew everything about (fill the blank) so-and-so tells you it was all so that the US government could conduct genetic experiments on blacks in prison (I was surprised by that one when it came up).

Ward Conferences in NZ - Since getting a stake calling I've learned this is where the real food is at. Post conference each ward puts on refreshments. At one conference I said "This isn't refreshments, this is a feast" and someone said "Oh no this was just bring a plate. You know it's big when there's a pig". The next ward conference I went to (at the Samoan ward): There was a pig.

I keep thinking "I should freeze some of that" but never do. So good job, freezer lady.

I can't even sit through one hour of fireside without getting fidgety, so two with no brownies at the end is unbelievable. I think I'd probably snap and run through the hallways yelling, "CHOCOLATE!!!"

I want to hear about your Kramerica job. Please. Unless it's you selling life insurance. If that's it, no thank you. I've already been hit up by my cousin and a few people from church. We're all set.

It's ok that you are a food-freezer. Just don't start freezing potato chips like my grandmas do.

Okay, I am weirded out right now because I recently froze enchiladas, made stuffed shells (twice), and someone from my freezer meal group gave me home-made cookie dough for my freezer. Are we telepathically on the same diet? I just ate a leftover peanut butter and honey on a mini bagel for lunch.... Please email asap if you just had the same thing!!

People, I am not making this up. I had peanut butter and honey on toast for breakfast. I emailed Kelly with a lot of exclamation points because we are food twins and I think that we need to capitalize on it. There has to be a circus in the market for us.

You and Kelly! Food twins!! Awesome.

I love freezer meals, but I still have to learn how to freeze a meal without giving up my pyrex. I know there is a way to do it with foil, I've just never been able to do it successfully, and I never feel that foil does a really good job at keeping things un-freezer burnt.

Congrats on the new job. I hope this gets you through until you find something full-time.

I want to move to NZ if they have pig after meetings. It's not that I want to eat it, really. It's just quite amazing!

1. as regards freezing cookie dough: i am familiar with this method and i'm telling you now--it is no deterrent. i've almost started to crave frozen dough balls more than i do freshly baked cookies.

2. is flo still around (was that your landlady's name?)? how mad would she be if a rubber bladder full of oil came tumbling over your balcony?

3. this is the first thing i've ever heard that made me not want to go to new zealand.
