1.) Last night I was riveted to a show on the National Geographic Channel about how the Great Lakes were formed (glaciers, volcanoes, prehistoric rivers!) I mean, I actually gasped a few times, that's how excited I was by the whole thing. Did you know the reason why the water level is lowering in the Great Lakes isn't because of global warming but because the earth underneath is rebounding from the weight of the glaciers that formed them? Fascinating!!! The show was proceeded by a show about how the state lines were formed, which I not only watched but recorded and will probably check the book out from the library.
2.) I'm teaching myself how to play the ukulele. But in order to do that I had to first teach myself how to repair and restring a ukulele. That was yesterday. Today I learned the A and F chords.
3.) I'm going to watch a Civil War reenactment on Saturday if anyone would like to join me. We can be nerds together!

A Civil War reenactment? I didn't know they did those in CA. I guess there are enthusiasts everywhere. Reminds me of the episode of Gilmore Girls where they are doing a reenactment and Kirk has to fill in as the woman of easy virtue and Taylor kisses him. Classic Gilmore Girls.
Just so you don't feel alone in your nerdery, my next Netflix is NOVA:America's Stoneage Explorers. Should be here tomorrow. :)
When you feel you have a grasp on the uke, no matter how tenuous, you may join my all-girl band. Right now there's only me and possibly a drummer who lives in Garden Grove, but I think a trio like that could go far - maybe even to San Diego.
I love being a nerd. It gives you a great license to do fun things - like go to the Nuclear museum in Albuquerque New Mexico or to the largest bust of Abraham Lincoln (at a rest stop off a major highway!).
I would love to come to a civil war reenactment with you - I really wish you lived closer. Sigh.
I've seen the Great Lakes show twice! Love it. It was super fascinating. Birds of a feather...nerds forever.
Just hearing about the Great Lakes show makes me want to watch the discovery channel tonight. Also, I love Civil War reenactments. I wish they did some here. Long live nerds, I say.
nerds=fun with history/scienc-y things
When I watched one of the episodes on how the earth was made, I had to go to the temple and I almost cried. It was THAT enlightening...I've been pondering it ever since.
My late bro-in-law had one of the largest Civil war collections in the world. It was nothing to go to his house and see civil war underwear, swords and cannon balls.
Weird stuff...
Rachel if you want to see REAL civil war recreations your welcome here to new England anytime.. down the road is a sign by a big rock where someone fairly famous (during the civil war) was shot and there is a hole in the rock that they say still has the bullet in it.. of coarse it's been exposed to the elments and really looks like well a big rock with MANY holes in it.. BUT it's got an offical statly sign so it must be true!!! have fun!!!
