Hallelujah!

The Hallelujah Chorus is done! Done! Done! Done!!!!! And I didn't have a heart attack or pass out or throw up, as expected, because a miracle happened (as it always does).

The miracle came in the form of my dear friend Sara. I got the simplified music and even that was beyond my skills so I practiced a lot. Basically until my fingers fell off and I had to grow new ones. Poor Katie. Poor neighbors. I owe them all cookies for having to put up with it. The entire last two pages were nothing but sixteenth notes (for non-musical people: sixteenth notes=ludicrous speed) which means that you play 8 pages of challenging music and then, just when you want to take a little nap, it ramps up and you have to plow full speed ahead to the end. So even with all the practicing I still wasn't close enough to decent and near the middle of last week I started to get a little panicky about the whole thing. And then, like an angel from heaven Sara, who heard of my woes, called and volunteered to make it a duet. She played the left hand and I played the right and besides those few measures on page 6 when we both got a little lost, it worked out like a dream. I even got most of the sixteenth notes. Thank you, thank you, thank you Sara!

In other news, it's cold and rainy today. Like 40 degrees cold. Which, in my book is like arctic weather. I half expect to see ice flows with penguins on them. That's how cold I am! It wouldn't be so bad but my space heater blew out and our office heater is broken and the repair guy was suppose to come today but had to cancel because of the rain so I went home on my lunch break and changed into warmer pants and warmer socks and warmer shoes and a warmer shirt and then layered a fleece pull-over AND a fleece lined hoodie on top of it all. Because I'm a wimp. And I am not ashamed. Chiquita has on a hoodie and a down coat. And her space heater works. So basically what I'm saying is, it's cold in here and if this is my last post you will know that I froze to death. Please see if you can get Wayne Newton to sing at my funeral.

I've become a true weather wimp, too. It's sixty degrees, raining and I want to curl up with a blanket in front of the fireplace (that I don't have because Arizona doesn't have enough of these days to warrant an indoor fireplace).

I'm glad Christmas miracles still happen!

And a Snuggie! Please tell me that you wore a Snuggie.

It was fierce outside today. Happily so, because it gave me an opportunity to use an adjective made famous on Project Runway a couple of seasons ago. It was blowy and rainy and cold. My poor brother is flying in from Ohio (where it's cold AND snowy) and he's expecting warm, sunshiny southern California weather...poor guy.

I'm totally with you on the hoodies and space heaters. There's a huge pot of soup cooking on my range top, Christmas candles are burning, and my fireplace is full of oak wood for burning. It'll probably be 68 degrees tomorrow.

Oh! Congrats on getting through the performance. Friends are the best.

Funerals are all about the PRE-arranging. I'll get Vegas on the line. But if Wayno goes first, you may have to play the piano...

Congrats on surviving the Messiah. I'm so glad for you that your friend helped out. I don't think, even with help, I could have handled 16th notes on the piano, so way to go.

And, to put things in perspective, it was 13 degrees this morning with a wind chill of -5. I still feel sorry for you, though, because every office seems to need space heaters. I will look around for a nice fluffy sweater you can keep in your office for those days when it dips below 60 degrees. Maybe I'll deliver it in person. My feet haven't been warm for about 3 weeks.

Double yeah for Sara. She is an amazing friend! Glad it's all over. I thought of you all night at our Messah sing-in. When do we get to see a picture of Chiquita. Please!

BTW...did anyone see Wayne Newton on the Amazing Race last week. He is seriously so plastic. Gross!

Gina, I CAN NOT BELIEVE that you would knock Wayne Newton on this blog. You're absolutely right, but that's part of his charm. Take it back!

I saw that!!!! And I thought of you as I watched him get up from the piano in the hotel room to tell people to go to his place.
Actual dialogue in my head: "Rachel should have been on this show so she could get that personal invitation. Most of those guys don't even know who he is, how can they appreciate that experience? I wonder if it's an open invitation, and they can go back to visit when ever they want...that'd be cool..."
