I've left on a jet plane...twice...with three more to go

I'm in New York waiting for my flight to Montreal.

Here's what I've seen so far:

1.) Remember how I said that I occasionally like to joke with a fellow passenger that our pilot has a glass eye? Well, I was close. Our flight attendant was missing an eye. I think I may be a travel psychic.

2.) Minneapolis (or St. Paul, who knows) is as flat as a very flat thing. We flew out with the sun rise and could see for miles and miles. This is my first through the Midwest so I've never seen land so flat in my life. It gave me the creeps. How do people know where north is if there are no mountains?

3.) Santino from Project Runway was 2 behind me in line at a shop in LAX. I was buying a People magazine. He was buying AA batteries.

4.) There was a guy on both flights who looked like a cross between Napoleon Dynamite, Steven Tyler and the Geiko Caveman. He was on his way to Maine for a music festival his friend was putting on.

I'm having a great time. Wish you were here!

Yay! I'm so glad I checked in! I thought...maybe Rachel will blog as she goes...and you did!

I love that you saw Santino! I wonder what the AA batteries were for.

And that must have been a very crazy looking Napolean Tyler Caveman guy! Did you get a picture?

You're only one day into your trip and already a very amusing blog post. I'm so excited for the adventures to come. Have fun!

Santino! My favorite of all Project Runway contestants. I see you're like me and resist the urge to bug the celebrities. Can't wait to hear who you sit next to for the next flights.

Santino was my fave too. No other PR contestant has ever come close to the place he holds in my heart.

Here's to the start of a wonderful trip - and many, many more funny posts.

Eck - New Zealand has equivalent flatland of madness; Christchurch. Whenever we visit I am lost within 3 minutes of arriving. every. time. Dunedin, however (my home), is hill-central - just the way I like it.

Hope you have a great trip. I always think a Santino sighting is a good good sign.

1. You have the best stories, and of course you got a flight attendant missing an eye.

2. I felt the same way the first time I went to Kansas. I still feel like that whenever we leave Denver and start driving away from the mountains. It totally reminds me of "My Antonia."

3. Please tell me Santino was talking to someone else in line, doing his Tim Gunn impression. The guy kind of gave me the creeps, but his TG impression was dead on.

4. Of course that guy was going to a music festival in Maine. Where else would a guy that looks like those guys fit in?

I will be looking at your blog every spare second I have. Kisses!

Nebraska here... we know direction by one of two ways: 1. Moss grows on the north side of a tree, and 2. we are seriously TYPE A about naming streets - the #'s run N-S and the letters run W-E with odds always being South and East.

Ridiculous, right?
