Inaugural Hats

Have I told you how much I love Inauguration Day? This should come as no surprise because there's loads of pomp and large groups of people waving flags and a parade. If you threw in a Slurpee machine and a good book I'd pray for it to be Inauguration Day every day.

Here's one of the things I especially loved about today's: all the funny hats.

Like, for instance, the one on Antonin Scalia:

John Paul Stevens' is pretty awesome too. George HW Bush wore one like that only it was grey, and about twice the size and the side-flaps were down. He looked like he had 2 furry bunnies strapped to his cheeks. It made me want to hug him.
You may have noticed the guy on the stand sitting right by the door wearing a red fedora. I'm going to come right out and say it was a bad choice. Black, grey, brown, plaid...fine. But red is kind of a pansy color for a fedora.
Speaking of fedoras, don't you think men should start wearing them again? And not just old men, but guys over 30? I think they're classy.
And how about Aretha Franklin's hat?
I wanted to shout "God Bless America!" for many reasons today, but that hat topped the list.

Amen and amen...men should definitely start wearing fedoras again...Harry Truman cut a smart figure...and I think women should wear hats again also...especially those ones with netting in front that came down halfway over their faces...that was pretty mysterious...of course, it would make it difficult to drive...I guess women took cabs a lot then...or walked...a lot of film noir didn't go into to much detail about that stuff...but it was sexy as all get out...me?...I'd probably do something katzbox-ish like try to eat and put part of the netting into my mouth and end up eating part of my outfit...nice....anyway...yea, Aretha...that hat was a mouthful...God Bless America indeed.....

I will mail you a dollar for a picture of you wearing the Aretha hat to Church. I may even make it $2!!! I would definitely wear a fedora if I were 30 years older and needed something to keep my head warm. Alas, I live in California where Inauguration Day hits a high of 80 degrees.

Aretha'as hat was one of the highlights, for sure. Along with the "benediction." I hope you caught it; it was pretty classic.

Aretha's hat: What a perfect way to wordlessly say "Halleluja!"

The benediction: I'm not sure if any under 50 caught the reference, but it was certainly an appropriate one.

I forgot to watch the inauguration, because I was busy watching "The Bachelor" that I had on my DVR. Oops. Sorry President Obama. And yes yes yes on the fedora. Classy!

economic meltdown, iraq, airport baggies, gas prices...that hat makes up for all of it. ALL OF IT. i believe one day its image will be as familiar as the bald eagle and the statue of liberty.
