Well, in a recent post I mentioned the movie Cactus Flower, how you should watch it. And then I watched it a few days later. There's a scene in the movie when Ingrid Bergman comes back into the office after a night of revelry and high spirits and she sees that her cactus has flowered. She takes it as a sign that good things are ahead. This was primarily manifested in the form of Walter Mathau's love and affection, which, I guess is a good thing if you like the cranky, jowly type. Anyway, the cactus. When that scene came on I said, "I wonder if my cactus is ever going to flower."
Because I've had this cactus for years and years. And it has only flowered maybe every 3 years. And every time it has, I have been out of town. I would return to find the brown and withered stem and the people who witnessed it would say, "It was lovely!" So you can understand, right? Why I would say this as Ingrid Bergman does a little dance over hers?
And then last night I came home from work and saw this:
You know what this means, right? That I'm one of the X-Men and this is my mutant power. OR that my cranky and jowly Wealthy Benefactor is on his way.

It is lovely! Bring on the jowly benefactors!
I had the same Michael Vartan epiphany yesterday as well!
Oh Rachel...promise you'll still write funny posts after you're wealthy and/or famous....promise....
I know we promised to use our new found powers for good, not evil, but I keep thinking of all the things I could speak into existence. Like only green lights always, and the bank making an error in my favor, and chocolate ice cream magically appearing on my doorstep (accompanied by brownies, of course). Those are all good, right?
Katie, those are all good things. And then you could speak a trip to Wisconsin in and we'd be set. The flower really is lovely. I'm tempted to get a cactus now except that I think they'd be like turtles for pets and you know how I am about that.
Three things: 1) I need to watch Cactus Flower again, and can't believe I forgot about it when I was making my rainy day movie list. 2) What show is Michael Vartan is these days? I'd like to give it a try because I have missed him so much. His presence in Alias got me through a Mississippi summer with a tiny baby. 3) Perhaps you and Katie could discuss how nice it would be to reminisce on those awesome sunny days in Utah when you were here in college. Maybe your mutant power would make the rain go away. I'm losing my mind.
i would SO vote for you if only i didn't have to keep voting for myself as funniest... i mean, after all, i am all the way up to 38 votes & the race is getting pretty heated! BUT... i am glad i found you & will now be one of your faithful followers!
