What are your thoughts on servers who squat next to your table as they're taking your order? I am decidedly against it. It's just a little too casual. And also icky. Maybe if I was ordering fish tacos at some dive at the beach that would be more acceptable. But if there isn't the possibility of having sand in your food then I'd prefer my servers stand upright.
I once had a server sit in the booth beside me. I didn't leave him a tip.

You know I agree with you on this one. Just too casual - and usually when the squat they lean their hand/arm on your table - inappropriate.
Against. I need a server, not a buddy. I've got plenty of friends, pal, okay?
One time I was on a blind date and the waitress came and sat right next to me while she took our pie orders. She said she was having a rough day. I think she must have had a lot of rough days, because Tim said he had a waitress do the same thing at the same restaurant. And squatting is a teeny tiny step up from plopping down next to you. So I'm with you. It's awkward.
I had a kid squat in front of me with his arm on my knee in London while he told me about all the day tours I could take. This would have been adorable if his nose hadn't been running like a faucet and he hadn't been rubbing it with the same bare arm he kept putting back on my knee.
